Today, the FDA still only recommends Mirena for women who have children, and doctors still work to deter childless women from choosing an IUD. When one friend approached her gynecologist about switching to an IUD, the doctor told her that she had a personal policy against prescribing the method to women not in monogamous relationships—even though my friend reported that she understood the risks, has never contracted an STD, and always uses condoms. The implication is that some women are allowed to make their own choices about their reproductive health, and some aren’t—and only women who already have kids are allowed to risk never having any more.
Of course, IUDs aren’t for everyone. When the IUD was approved for childless women in 2005, usage rates jumped 160 percent. But the study found that women who choose IUDs still tend to be “older, to have public health insurance, and to have more children,” while the pill, the patch, and the ring remain more popular among women who have private health insurance and no kids. That leaves the IUD too expensive for the women who want it most and its use discouraged among the women who can actually afford it—and U.S. unplanned pregnancy rates some of the highest in the developing world.”

Love this whole post.
[NB: More people than just cis women need and want access to IUD and other forms of hormonal contraception.]

I’m very fortunate that may gynecologist if a big fan of IUDs. I was thinking about getting one, and she was very enthusiastic. She highly recommends them to women who don’t want to have kids for a while or have really hectic schedules (making it really hard to take the Pill at the same time). She told me that I could get one even though I didn’t have kids and that, being in college, it was the most practical option. I didn’t end up getting one. I went with a pill that only lets me have a few periods a year but if they make a IUD that will rid me of my periods, I will be the first to get it!

When does it become appropriate to file a restraining order?
I was seeing this dude for a while and we slept together a few times but now no matter how many times I tell him I won’t hang out with him, he just sort of ignores my saying now.
Sample: “Hey, [my name], do you have some free time…
You have to tell him no. If you say things like your busy with spring cleaning, he may think that you indeed DO want to see him but you’re just busy. I’ve myself have even tried the “I have a boyfriend now, and he’s the jealous type” line, and the guy still kept urging me to hang out. His thought was that if he stuck around enough, I’ll eventually leave my boyfriend and he’ll have a chance.
You’re going to have to say “No. I don’t want to hang out with you anymore”. End. No excuses of other things to do or your to busy. That’s not no in his mind. He’ll probably get either really whiny and cry or get really mad and call you a bunch of names. After you tell him no, cut off all contact. Don’t answer his calls, don’t answer the door if he shows up, and defriend him on FB.
After that you should also catalog everything he does. This is going to be important if you get a restraining order. Every time calls, how often, and what times. Also if he makes any “surprise” visits to your home. This is going to be evidence that he is indeed interfering with your life and causing you psychological distress. Also if there is an escalation in his attempts to call you, it does show that he may start to try to harm you.
You are not over reacting. It is obviously bothering you, so if you want to go ahead and try to get a restraining order do it. It’ll just be harder if you don’t have any proof. Another thing you can do is call a non emergency phone number for the police and ask for a drive by. Tell them about your concerns and they can send a car by you place to drive around for a bit.
Hope this has helped and everything works out okay. I’ve had this problem before. I’ve even had to leave a job over the guy because management wouldn’t do anything about it. Let me know if you need anything.
This came across my FB feed. Had to share it.

You know, why don’t you just move in to MY house that I bought with MY own money? Then you can really tell me how to live! I’ll start calling you Mommy and you can even wipe my ass!

“Why don’t black activists people do more to support white people’s rights? I mean, if they really wanted equality between the races, they’d be working for the rights of white people, too. Do you remember that one time that someone was prejudiced against a white person and the law totally…
I TOTALLY thought it was boobies. I even had a dance move specifically for that part. Hmmmmm, not sure if I going to change it.

I REALLY need to do a post about puberty.
Someone said their reasoning in the “becoming sexually active” post to set the age of being able to be sexually active at 18 is because sex should occur after the hormones of adolescence.
However
Puberty actually extends into the mid 20s meaning for…
Exactly! Puberty is different for everyone. Not just that, but different parts of puberty happens at different time. I started growing hair at 9 but didn’t really get “shapely” until 16. My boyfriend got all hormone-ie early on, but didn’t even grow a stash until after he was 18.
Arizona, what the hell is wrong with you? »
Holy crap! What is WRONG with that state? If I had the money, I’d help women relocate the hell out of there.

Things I’ve always wondered about female feminists:
- Do they get mad if a guy tries to hold the door open for them and say “ladies first”
- Do they not go to their favorite club because it’s ‘ladies get in free night’
- Do they believe a guy should never hit a girl
- Would they let a guy join their girls softball team
- Do they avoid buying women’s razors
My answers-
1. Not really. The “ladies first” part kind of rubs me the wrong way, but I’d never jump down someones throat for it. Just a polite smile and a thank you. I also try to cover my butt with my purse or bag.
2. Nope. I hate the idea of ladies night.
3. No one should hit anyone. Guy to girl. Girl to guy. Guy to guy and girl to girl. Self defense in a whole different story.
4. Sure. I would.
5. I usually buy men’s razors if there cheaper. But I have no qualms against women’s razors if there the same price.
